Reading this book 3x'd my referral rate

Is there anything better for business than a good referral?

A client or friend sends someone your way and the process is seamless.

No lead gen headache.
No drawn-out sales process.
They’re ready to work with you with no hassle.

Why?

Because someone they trust has already done the selling.

So the big question is, how do you get more of them?

For me, it started with a book.

A former client gifted me Unreasonable Hospitality by Will Guidara.

I’ve since read it cover to cover, multiple times.

Now I gift it to my clients all the time.

Because the mindset in it completely changed the way I run a business.

The TL;DR version is this:

Exceptional service gets remembered, and when people remember you, they refer you.

The book documents how Will turned Eleven Madison Park from a good restaurant into the best in the world, not just through great food, but by creating moments people never forget.

👉 Like overhearing a guest say they’d never had a NYC hot dog and serving one to their table on fine dining crockery, even though hot dogs weren’t on the menu.

👉 Or noticing that the children of a family from Spain had never seen snow before, and taking the whole family sledging in Central Park after their meal.

It sounds crazy but there are so many examples of this in the book. They even hired someone they called a Dreamweaver specifically to cook up amazing experiences like these!

These stories stuck with me.

The personal touch makes people feel valued.

And that’s what gets talked about.

Since reading the book, I changed my approach to customer service.

I gifted books during and after client engagements.
I made introductions. Promoted their offers. Sent opportunities their way.
I did things that had nothing to do with coaching but everything to do with care.

It changed everything.

Clients talked way more positively about the experience which meant stronger reviews and way more referrals, without me even asking.

In fact, just before I stepped away from coaching, I was averaging three referrals per client within nine months.

All because I decided to give people more than they expected.

So if you're looking to grow your business, maybe the answer isn’t more marketing.

Maybe it starts with doubling down on the client you are already serving.

It might be the simplest path to long-term growth.

Talk soon,
Mohammed
