Is the Internet dead?

AI has taken over.

It’s everywhere.

Social media feeds are flooded with AI-generated posts, AI comments and AI DMs.

It feels like there are more bots than people.

What happened to the internet?

The once chaotic, user-driven web has been sterilised.

Sure, it was wild, but everything felt unique.

The world today feels different. Everything is optimised for engagement, monetisation, and data collection.

So, is the internet dead? Or just… different? And what does that mean for us?

The Dead Internet Theory

There’s a growing belief that the internet isn’t what it used to be.

The Dead Internet Theory argues that most of what we see online is not created by humans. Instead, it’s AI-generated content designed to manipulate us into buying, believing, or engaging with whatever corporations want. Algorithms amplify bot-generated noise and drown out real human interaction.

But is this theory exaggerated, or is it closer to the truth than we’d like to admit?

The Problem

1. The Algorithm Overlords

Everything online feels like it is engineered for virality. Posts are designed to feed the algorithm, not to add value. Engagement farming rules the internet. Clickbait, outrage, and sensationalism thrive because that’s what keeps people scrolling. Real conversation seems to be dying.

2. AI Overuse = Laziness

Why think for yourself when AI can do it for you? AI can cook up ideas, create and edit way faster than a human can. And when we are busy trying to grow our business, the last thing we want to do is spend hours creating social media posts.

Although this convenience comes at a huge cost. The overuse of AI creates generic, lifeless content. Posts that barely educate, inform, or entertain. Social media, especially LinkedIn, feels like it’s lost its soul.

Everything is starting to sound the same because, well… it is.

3. The Screen Time Trap

People are spending an average of 7 hours per day in front of a screen. How much of that time is wasted on low-value, mind-numbing content?

Consuming junk makes you stagnant. Your brain is absorbing meaningless noise instead of ideas that move your life or business forward. More content doesn’t mean more growth. It often means distraction and slower decision making.

The Opportunity

When everything feels fake, being real is your biggest advantage.

1. Be You

If you’re building a business, especially as a coach, your personality is your differentiator. People want to hire human coaches because they crave real conversations, deep listening, and true presence.

Forget about gaming the algorithm. Just be yourself. Speak in your own voice. Post ideas that actually matter to you. Not what you think will get clicks.

2. Comment Like a Human

Instead of dropping generic one-liners, write thoughtful responses. A rule I try to follow is to write comments that read like posts as much as possible. Conversations build relationships. And relationships build businesses.

3. Personalise Your DMs

Instead of copy-pasting AI-generated messages, send a voice note or a Loom video. Let people hear your voice. Let them see your energy. Make them feel like they’re having a real conversation—not a bot exchange.

The Final Stand

This isn’t a crusade against AI. AI is powerful. It makes us more productive. But productivity without authenticity is just noise.

Take a stand for being unapologetically you.

You might not go viral. But you’ll build a real audience, a real community, and a real business.

And that’s what actually matters.

See you next week,

Mohammed

When people think about creating content, they usually focus on the top line: New clients More leads More sales And yes, those are important. But they’re not the only benefits.
